SARAWAK’s Parti Bumi Kenyalang has urged the police not to allow politicians and activists to stir up hatred against KK Mart stores as this could affect the economy and also lead to job losses.

Its president, Voon Lee Shan, said KK Mart was founded by a Sarawakian and, following the recent uproar over the socks issue, some quarters are bent on seeing it closed down.

“KK Mart has 881 outlets nationwide and is a ‘business ambassador’ for Sarawak.

“Also, we cannot discount the possibility of sabotage against KK Mart by its business rivals or religious extremists out to destroy this flourishing business,” he said in a statement.

He said of late, some people were behaving like law enforcement officers, prosecutors and judges, disregarding those who were rightfully empowered to carry out such duties.

“Such behaviour by a few can paint a negative image of law enforcement agencies. The police must act against those who create hatred and instigate others under the Sedition Act 1948,” he said. – The Vibes, March 26, 2024
