Attacker suddenly shot at us, says Ulu Tiram cop

POLICE officer Mohd Hasif Roslan was shot in the hip and shoulder but still tried to stop a shooter at a Johor police station on May 17, Bernama reports.

A member of the Ulu Tiram station’s crime prevention patrol, the “Sang Saka Biru” squad member was on duty when he faced a masked assailant who had just hacked a fellow officer to death.

Recalling the incident, Hasif said he went out on patrol at 2.30am but quickly returned after receiving instructions from the station chief.

“When I arrived at the station, I saw a body next to the barracks and was informed that my colleague had been killed,” he said.

“Colleagues told me that the station had been attacked but the suspect was not visible at the time.

“Suddenly, the attacker opened fire at us and I was hit in the hip and shoulder,” he said.

Hasif and three other officers then tried to track the attacker. Wounded and covered in blood, he fired several shots at the attacker before he was taken to the hospital.

“When I got to the hospital, I immediately called my wife and informed her of the situation because I did not want her and our children to worry,” he added.

The 38-year-old was speaking after a rank conferment ceremony yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Almost a month after the incident, he is still receiving medical treatment but has not lost his desire to continue serving in the force

Hasif, who has been in the force for 14 years, said it was his job to keep serving the community even when faced with challenges.

Yesterday, he was one of three members of the Ulu Tiram police station to receive a field promotion presented by Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He was promoted to the rank of sergeant while the two other members – Mohd Khairul Azhar Abbi Paisa and Muhammad Aznel Salleh – were promoted to the rank of corporal.

Tthe two officers who died in the attack – Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said – were each posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal.

Following the incident, police arrested five members of the suspect’s family, aged 19 to 62, under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act. – June 16, 2024.
