HEAVY rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected to lash several parts of Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak today.
The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected areas were Langkawi in Kedah; Tangkak, Muar, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru in Johor; and Malacca.
"Forecasted strong winds of up to 50km per hour and rough seas resulting in waves reaching heights of up to 3.5 pose a threat to small boats," it said in a statement.
The warning applies to waters off Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu and Sarawak.
The department said heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected over the waters in Phuket, Malacca Strait, Samui, Tioman, Condore, Bunguran, Reef North, Reef South, Layang-Layang, Labuan, Palawan, Sulu and Sulawesi till 1pm today.
It said these reas will experience strong winds of up to 50 kilometres per hour with waves reaching heights of up to 3.5 metres, and the situation would be dangerous to small boats.
MetMalaysia said strong southwest winds of up to 50kph and waves reaching heights of up to 3.5 metres are forecasted in the waters off Phuket, Condore (north), Reef North, Layang-Layang and Palawan, until June 25.
It warned the conditions would be dangerous for small boats and water sports. – June 22, 2024.
