THE sharing of inaccurate information and crank calls have caused great distress to the family of 6-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui, police said today.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said since the abduction of the girl went viral on social media, the family had been harassed with crank calls and fake information about their daughter’s whereabouts.

“Stop all this speculation and sharing of inaccurate information. The girl has been found,” he said.

Albertine was reported missing at around 8.30pm on Saturday at the Eco Galleria business centre in Iskandar Puteri. She was found safe today in Batang Kali, Selangor.

“I urge the public to act responsibly and avoid making speculative comments that could interfere with the investigation.

“Since the case went viral, the victim's family has received numerous calls with incorrect information," he told a press conference today.

He also said police would not hesitate to take stern action against anyone who spreads false information.

“We will take firm and uncompromising action against those spreading false information about this case to disrupt the victim's family and cause public alarm,” he added. – July 23, 2024.
