Trio, including a ‘Datuk’, nabbed for allegedly receiving bribes related to housing project

THREE people, including a Datuk who is a former officer at Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd's (SPNB) wholly-owned subsidiary, have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

New Straits Times reported an MACC source saying the three were detained for allegedly accepting bribes related to a housing project worth nearly RM110 million.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Burhanuddin issued a five-day remand order, starting from July 30 to August 3, for all male suspects, aged between 40 and 60, following an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court yesterday.

"The three suspects, along with another individual, are believed to have received bribes from a construction company in exchange for conspiring to sign a supplementary development agreement related to the Aspirasi Rakyat Housing Development Project in Kuantan, without the approval of SPNB's board of directors.

"The agreement is also believed to have contained unfair clauses, resulting in SPNB suffering losses amounting to tens of millions of ringgit.

"All suspects were detained at MACC headquarters around 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, but one was released on MACC bail after the individual's statements were recorded," said the source.

Meanwhile, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the matter when contacted by NST.

He said the case was also being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. – July 31, 2024.
