WORKS Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has refuted claims that he had given special attention to Sarawak in completing the multi-billion ringgit Pan Borneo Highway project and neglected the Sabah stretch of the highway.
“I am not just a minister for Sarawak. I am a minister for all Malaysians and I give equal attention to all states.
“Some stretches of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah were delayed due to poor coordination between contractors and the agencies involved in the project.
“I did not give more attention to Sarawak just because I am from the state,” the Kapit MP said today on social media after inspecting several portions of the highway under construction in Sabah.
The stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak costs about RM16 billion and measures some 1,000km from Kuching in the south to Miri in the north.
The Sabah portion spans about 700km and costs about RM9 billion.
Nanta said he is meeting various parties in Sabah to look into the problems they are facing.
“Efforts are being taken by my ministry to speed up the Sabah portions so that they can be completed as planned,” he said.
When he was prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak approved the federal allocation of RM 25 billion to build the highway linking the Borneo states. – July 31, 2024
