A HEADLESS body found in Alor Gajah, Malacca, on December 31, has been identified to be that of Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi, 33.
Alor Gajah police chief Ashari Abu Samah said the woman was a teacher in Johor who was reported missing on December 27.
Istiqomah was a mother of three children, aged four to nine years old. The body was discovered in Jalan Alor Gajah-Tampin, near Kampung Rimau in Pulau Sebang.
"Police confirmed her identity with a DNA sample from her mother taken on August 2. Investigators from D9 of the Malacca CID, working with their Johor counterparts, have arrested a husband and wife, aged 36 and 37, respectively, in Chemor, Perak," said Ashari.
He said interviews with the pair led to the recovery of the missing body parts near where the body was discovered.
"Both suspects have been remanded for seven days from August 6 to help with murder investigations. Anyone with information on the case can contact the Alor Gajah police at 06-556 2222 or ASP Norehan Omar at 010-406 4003," he added.
It was reported in June that the wife of Mohd Yusof, 35, had been missing since December 26.
Mohd said he filed a police report the day after Istiqomah's disappearance. Her car was found the next day parked near a supermarket near Kota Masai, close to the couple's home.
CCTV footage from the supermarket showed a man exiting the vehicle, but the woman was not visible.
In January, the media reported that a body had been found with the head, arms, and legs chopped off. The dismembered body parts were stuffed into a bin and dumped in a drain by the side of the road.
The body was decomposed when it was discovered, suggesting that the victim had been dead for several days. – August 12, 2024
