NETIZENS have hit out at the Besut District Council in Terengganu for the reported shooting of Kopi, a stray dog that has since gone viral on social media.

Animal-lover social media account, My Forever Doggo (MFD), had earlier cited a local who saw members of the council allegedly shooting the dog during a stray culling operation on October 6.

The caption reads, “We are heartbroken to share that last Sunday (Oct 6), just two days after World Animal Day, this sweet homeless doggo named Kopi, who melted so many of our hearts with her gentleness, was shot by the local council in Terengganu.”

Kopi first went viral in March after she was caught playing with a stray kitten in a five-foot way by TikTok user AbbyRaz, which was viewed over 185,000 times.

My Forever Doggo said that according to the witness, Kopi was known to be the ‘big sister’ for all the cats and puppies in the area.

An online petition demanding accountability from the council has also been launched. The petition currently has over 9k signatures.

Meanwhile, according to reports in The Star, the Besut District Council (MDB) will submit a report to the Terengganu state government, following public uproar over the shooting of Kopi.

“MDB will deliver the report by Sunday (Oct 13)," said Terengganu exco for local councils Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah.
