PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has vowed to study objections raised over the proposed amendments to the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA).
He said his senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Tunku Abaidah, received a memorandum concerning the PPPA amendments from NGOs and journalists outside Parliament this morning.
"We will study all objections, criticisms and proposals raised and ensure a positive environment for the media to operate, on top of protecting their rights and freedom,” he said on Facebook.
More than 50 members of the media and non-governmental organisations marched to Parliament to deliver the memorandum.
Earlier, the National Union of Journalists Malaysia, Centre for Independent Journalism and Gerakan Media Merdeka urged the home ministry to provide clarification on rumoured amendments to the PPPA, which they said would affect media freedom. - December 4, 2024
