A GABUNGAN Rakyat Sabah youth leader has extended an invitation to Warisan to be part of the alliance.
Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Youth chief Christopher Mandut believes the ruling state alliance would welcome the party if Warisan leaders are sincere.
"This will undoubtedly be a positive step towards a brighter future for Sabah," Mandut opined, adding that GRS would be ready to work with any party that shares the same struggles.
Mandut said this about a Sabah daily report of a purported bid by Warisan to work with GRS, which had gone unanswered.
At a Christmas and New Year celebration organised by Warisan, party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal noted that his call for a united political front in Sabah was not new but pointed out that "coming from them (GRS), they don't want to work with Warisan."
"When I said that (forming a united political front), I didn't mean we should be united for greed or power.
"It must be for the people. Not to solve party problems," he said when asked of a rumour that Warisan was in talks with GRS.
Mandut who based his comments solely on the news report claimed he was surprised with Shafie's alleged assertion.
He said it was a change of tune from the former chief minister who once was inclined to work with Umno.
GRS comprises all Sabah parties, Mandut said, adding that it had always prioritised unity for the well-being of the people and the development of the state.
“If Warisan is serious about joining this cause, we invite them to submit an official application to become part of the GRS family.
"This application will be brought to the GRS Supreme Council for discussion with professionalism and an open-minded spirit.
“We believe that if all parties set aside differences and prioritise unity, it will be a positive step towards a brighter future for Sabah,” he said. - January 6, 2025
