SARAWAK Premier's chief political secretary Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman opposed a proposal to change the designation of Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg to Sarawak Prime Minister.

He stressed that there should only be one prime minister in Malaysia - a position held by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"This ensures that the spirit of the Malaysia Federation as envisioned by its forefathers is preserved, and stability in the nation can be maintained.

"We are confident that under the leadership of the Prime Minister as well as the Premier of Sarawak, Malaysia will continue to prosper,” he said in a statement.

Fazzrudin, who is also the Tupong assemblyman, was responding to the proposal by Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) president Lina Soo that the position of Premier of Sarawak be re-gazetted as Prime Minister of Sarawak.

Soo argued that such a change was appropriate and legitimate if Sarawak remains consistent in asserting its equal partner status within the federation.

Fazzrudin said efforts to restore and uphold Sarawak rights and status in the federation through the Sarawak government GPS must be supported by all Sarawakians.

“I believe that restoration of Sarawak rights and efforts in ensuring state empowerment must be done in accordance to and within the legal framework of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Government Committee (IGC) Report 1962 and the Federal Constitution,” he added. - January 15, 2025
