THE Putrajaya High Court today concluded hearing the testimony of Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his defence against charges of power abuse and money laundering linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) after 26 days.
Najib, 71, began his testimony from the stand on Dec 2, 2024, reading from four volumes of prepared statements spanning 678 pages in four volumes.
Some of the volumes were added to supplement his main testimony before presiding judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
Najib's lead defence counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, told the court they would call 25 witnesses when proceedings resume on Feb 10.
The defence did not specify who the next witness will be when proceedings resume.
However, Shafee indicated that the defence is looking to call former company board members, and former lawyers involved with 1MDB.
Najib is standing trial on 25 charges involving alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited in his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
On Oct 30, Sequerah ordered him to enter his defence to the charges after holding that the prosecution had established a prima facie case. - January 24, 2025
