A MAN was charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Johor Bharu today for the murder of his mother-in-law at a house in Taman Sri Skudai earlier this month.

No plea was recorded from the accused, Zuraidi Zakaria, 51, as the murder case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charges, Zuraidi was accused of causing the death of Epah Daik, 79, at a house on Jalan Tembaga Merah, Taman Sri Skudai, at around 4:20 p.m. on February 5.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty by hanging or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, along with 12 strokes of the cane if the accused is found guilty but not sentenced to death.

Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab then set April 28 for the next hearing to await the report on the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test.
