DATUK SERI Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has failed to retain his position as Vice President of the Bumiputera wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) following the party's election yesterday.
Announcing the results at the 16th PBB General Assembly today, Election Chairman Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah revealed that Abdul Karim, who serves as Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, secured 669 votes, placing him fifth out of the six candidates running for the position.
Only the top four candidates would be elected to the role.
Bernama reported today, the highest number of votes went to Datuk Ibrahim Baki, the Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) for Satok, who garnered 910 votes.
He was closely followed by Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, the Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications of Sarawak, who successfully defended his seat with 900 votes.
Other winners included Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development for Sarawak, who secured 788 votes to retain his position. Additionally, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment for Sarawak, emerged victorious with 687 votes.
Meanwhile, Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications for Sarawak, was unable to hold onto his vice president role, finishing with 546 votes.
The PBB is divided into two wings: the Bumiputera wing, which includes Malay/Melanau members, and the Pesaka wing, which consists of Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu communities.
The General Assembly, which is being held from February 14 to 16, has attracted over 4,000 delegates. – February 16, 2025
