A MAN suspected of being involved in a case of attempted sexual assault of a girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, Selangor yesterday, has been remanded for a week beginning today.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the remand period for the 19-year-old local man was obtained at the Kuala Kubu Baharu Sessions Court this morning.

"Preliminary investigations found that the man involved did not know the victim," Bernama quoted him saying when contacted today and informed that the case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017.

Regarding the claim that the man in question has a disabled person (OKU) card, Hussein said his side has not received confirmation from the Department of Social Welfare regarding the matter.

Yesterday, CCTV footage went viral showing a man in a white cap sneaking into the women's prayer room before hugging a child from behind while he was prostrating and running away without the other congregation noticing.

The man was also seen struggling to try to molest the victim before running away after the victim fought back.

Following the incident, the man in question was arrested at his residence which is located about one kilometer from the mosque in question at 10am yesterday. – February 22, 2025
