TWO teenage boys lost their lives and three others were seriously injured in a tragic car accident in front of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Convent, Jalan Tanjung Bendahara, in Alor Setar last night.

According to Assistant Fire Superintendent Wan Azizul Hakim Wan Jaafar, the Jalan Raja Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call about the incident at 10:28 p.m., and the team arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later.

"The accident involved a Perodua Myvi carrying five 18-year-old boys," he said. "It is believed that the vehicle lost control, skidded, and crashed into a road barrier."

Wan Azizul Hakim confirmed that two victims were declared dead at the scene, while the three others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar for urgent medical treatment.

“The bodies of the deceased victims have been handed over to the police for further investigation,” he added.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, which has left the local community in shock. – March 7, 2025
