A 22-year-old Pakistani man, who did not possess a valid driving licence, tragically lost his life in a head-on collision with a trailer while attempting to overtake another vehicle on Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing last night, March 8.

The incident occurred at KM67.5 at around 10:45 p.m. when the man, who held a valid passport but no driving licence, was driving towards Kota Tinggi from Mersing.

According to District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was attempting to overtake a vehicle when he failed to avoid an oncoming trailer.

“The victim crashed directly into the trailer, and he was trapped in his vehicle," Yusof confirmed when speaking with the local daily today.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the trailer was unharmed," he added.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and the man’s body was subsequently sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Superintendent Yusof took the opportunity to remind all motorists to exercise caution on the roads and follow traffic laws to ensure their safety and prevent similar accidents.

"We urge everyone to stay vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations at all times," he said.

The police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact Traffic Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Zamiruddin Yaakob at 011-39105277. – March 9, 2025
