SEPUTEH MP Teresa Kok’s former staff member Edmund Teoh Kheng Yaik, announced his decision to withdraw from the upcoming DAP central executive committee (CEC) elections on Sunday, March 16, following his involvement in a graft investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In a statement issued after his release on March 9, Teoh, who was previously remanded for questioning, said no charges had been filed against him and he would fight against what he described as "unfounded allegations."
"I was released by the MACC, and no charges have been filed against me to date," Teoh stated. "As the investigation into the procurement of smartboards is still ongoing, I have been advised not to comment further at this stage."
He continued to deny the accusations, categorically refuting all claims made against him.
Teoh expressed no regrets about his 18 years of service to DAP, citing his dedication, loyalty, and integrity throughout his tenure.
In his statement, he explained that his decision to withdraw from the CEC elections was made to protect the reputation of the party and avoid being perceived as a divisive figure.
"I will also resign from all positions I hold within the party," he added.
"This is not the end of my political journey, but a necessary pause. Once my name is cleared, I will return to continue my fight for justice, integrity, and the people."
The investigation that has led to Teoh’s withdrawal stems from a speech made by Teresa Kok in Parliament on November 14, 2022.
In her address, Kok questioned the justification for the Federal Territory Education Department's request for and provision of smartboards, a matter that was later shared on her social media.
Teoh and his former colleague Ng Yoot Kuen were called in by the MACC for questioning in connection with the matter.
Teoh’s withdrawal comes as he seeks to clear his name and continue his political work once the investigation concludes. - March 14, 2025
