A MALAYSIA Airlines flight from Manila, Philippines to Kuala Lumpur is believed to have turned back after one of its engine caught fire following a bird strike.

According to a post on Aviation Updates Philippines Facebook, the flight, MH705 safely landed in Manila and there were no injuries reported.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday afternoon soon after take-off from Manila.

Based on information from the Facebook page, the left engine of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737 caught fire due to a bird strike and it landed safely nearly 40 minutes later, with emergency rescue personnel accompanying it all the way to the checkpoint.

An X platform user posted a photo of flames coming out of the plane's engine in the air, and said that the engine malfunctioned and caught fire after the plane took off.

He thanked the pilot and crew for ensuring the safety of the passengers, and Malaysia Airlines also responded to the post, thanking the passengers for their understanding.

"We are relieved to hear that you are safe and thank you very much for your understanding during such a difficult situation."

Malaysia Airlines reiterated that the safety of its passengers is its top priority and expressed regret to the flight passengers whose travel plans had been disrupted. – March 16, 2025
