PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) to embrace the latest technological advancements to improve mapping studies and enforcement training.
He emphasised that such innovations are crucial for enhancing the country’s efforts in combating wildlife smuggling and illegal trade, while also supporting deeper research into Malaysia’s plastic-free initiatives.
In a statement posted on Facebook today, Anwar said, "Advanced technology should also be utilised to enhance monitoring efforts related to wildlife smuggling and trade, as well as to conduct more in-depth studies on the plastic-free campaign for environmental sustainability."
He stressed that adopting such technologies would significantly bolster efforts in the fight against environmental degradation and contribute to Malaysia's broader environmental conservation goals.
The Prime Minister also expressed his confidence in the ongoing improvements and strategic planning within the ministry, which he believes will reinforce Malaysia's position as a leader in environmental conservation.
"With the ministry’s ongoing planning and improvements, I believe this will continue to position Malaysia as a country committed to environmental conservation, in line with the global sustainable development agenda," Anwar said.
Highlighting the importance of these efforts, Anwar added, "As a result, we can all contribute to a greener future and improve the quality of life for society."
Earlier today, Anwar attended a top management meeting at NRES, where he received updates on the ministry’s operations, reviewed its progress, and engaged in discussions on further initiatives to enhance its performance and effectiveness in addressing environmental issues. – March 21, 2025
