PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for Malaysia to fast-track the exploration and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to stimulate innovation and support sustainable economic growth.

In a meeting he chaired yesterday (March 24), Anwar outlined the government's strategy to utilise AI and digital assets to drive economic progress.

"Some areas remain where Malaysia has the potential to be a leader, particularly in Islamic digital assets and the halal industry. However, decisions on these matters must be made promptly and implemented without delay," Anwar said in a post on his official Facebook page.

He stressed the importance of taking immediate action in these sectors to maintain Malaysia’s competitive edge.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for a focus on cyber threats and the importance of fostering trust among industries and institutions in Malaysia.

Anwar emphasised the necessity of cross-ministerial and agency collaboration to effectively implement AI technology strategies.

"I believe that active cooperation between the Ministry of Digital, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Securities Commission through a dedicated platform will enable a more systematic and holistic approach," he said.

Anwar explained that such collaborative efforts would enable Malaysia to stay competitive on the global stage, ensuring the country remains both efficient and effective in navigating future economic challenges. – March 25, 2025
