KUALA LUMPUR – All eyes are on high court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, who is set to deliver his judgment on former Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s RM2 million graft case today.
Tengku Adnan, who turned 70 yesterday, was charged in his capacity as a public servant, namely the Federal Territories minister, with having received for himself RM2 million from businessman Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong, who is Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd (AKSB) director, via a Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque belonging to the company that was deposited into a CIMB account owned by Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd, which Tengku Adnan has an interest in and is known to AKSB as being related to his official duties.
The Putrajaya MP is accused of committing the offence at the Pusat Bandar Damansara CIMB branch here on June 14, 2016, under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The prosecution is led by deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim, while lawyer Datuk Tan Hock Chuan is leading the defence.
Ten reporters, one each from selected media outlets, have been given passes to be in the courtroom, while passes have been issued to 20 other journalists to follow the proceedings via video link in another room. – Bernama, December 21, 2020
