THE fire and rescue department said it could take up to four hours to fully release the gas from a leaked Petronas pipeline that caused the fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, this morning.

Fire and Rescue Department director General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohamad said this is the estimated time required for the remaining gas in the 32-kilometer stretch of pipeline to burn off."

"We have asked Petronas to release the gas, and while it may take four hours, we are hoping to shorten it

"We will not be conducting any operations to put out the fire at the exploded section of the pipe.

"For now, our focus is on cordoning off the area and evacuating the surrounding houses," he told a press conference today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail authorities have observed that the fire was visibly decreasing.

He said he was briefed by the operations commander that the flames had diminished as of 1.55pm.
