A COMPREHENSIVE and transparent investigation must be carried out to determine the cause of the gas pipeline fire on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor, which occurred yesterday, said Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
In a statement today, Mohamad Sabu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kota Raja, stressed the need for enhanced safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"I would like to express my deepest condolences and full solidarity with all the victims affected by the fire at the Petronas gas pipeline yesterday," Bernama cited Mohamad Sabu saying..
"This incident has not only shocked the nation, but also severely disrupted the lives of local residents, with more than 100 people injured, including children, and hundreds of homes and vehicles suffering significant damage."
Mohamad further revealed that he had been in contact with authorities and relevant agencies to gather detailed information about the incident.
"Yesterday, I instructed my staff from the Kota Raja Parliamentary office to visit the site and collaborate with other government agencies to provide immediate assistance to those affected," he added.
The Minister also welcomed the swift commitment from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who assured that repairs would be made to the damaged infrastructure and that the welfare of the victims would be prioritised following the gas pipeline fire.
Mohamad expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the rescue operations, including the fire and rescue department, police, medical staff, local authorities, and neighbouring MPs who also assisted on the ground.
"I urge everyone to remain calm, follow safety instructions, and look after the welfare of their neighbours during this difficult time," he said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar announced immediate aid of RM5,000 for homeowners whose properties were completely destroyed by the gas pipeline fire, as well as RM2,500 for over 100 homeowners whose properties suffered partial damage.
The Director-General of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad, confirmed that a total of 237 homes were affected by the blaze, which occurred at 8:10 AM.
In total, 305 people were involved in the incident, with the majority suffering from burns and heat-related injuries. - April 2, 2025
