PERAK Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said Datuk Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin’s defection, despite her status as a former Kampong Gajah assemblywoman, had minimal consequence for UMNO.

“We have expected this for quite some time... so it has no impact at all.

“She only represents a loss of one vote in the Pasir Salak parliamentary constituency and Kampong Gajah state seat,” he told reporters after officiating the Sejati MADANI: Impian Jadi Realiti programme in Batang Padang district today.

Wan Norashikin, accompanied by her husband, Tapah PAS division secretary Muhammad Noor Farid Zainal, submitted her PAS membership form to party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang during the Mega Ceramah held in conjunction with the Ayer Kuning by-election at Kampung Tanjung Keramat last night.

Saarani also dismissed Abdul Hadi’s claims, made during the same event, that UMNO was weakening, calling the remarks disconnected from the current political reality.

“UMNO is still part of the government, both at the federal and state level. At the federal level, we hold 30 seats, and UMNO leaders occupy key positions in government, including the Deputy Prime Minister post.

“In Perak, we won nine seats and remain part of the state government. I myself am the Menteri Besar... so where’s the so-called loss of bite? That’s just empty talk,” he said. - April 20, 2025
