THE family of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student Manarina Hasya Mohamad Karim, who died after being struck by a bus on campus, has not ruled out the possibility of taking legal action over the incident.
Her father, Mohamad Karim Sulaiman, 51, said the family is placing full trust in the ongoing investigations being conducted by both the university and the police.
“So far, UUM is conducting an internal investigation which is linked to the police inquiry. We will make any decisions after receiving the full report.
“If necessary, God willing, we will take appropriate action,” Sinar Harian quoted the father saying when met following his daughter’s burial at the Felda Chempelak Islamic Cemetery in Labis, Johor on Sunday night.
Manarina Hasya, a second-year Bachelor of Business Management student, was laid to rest around 11.45pm, in a funeral attended by relatives and local residents who came to pay their final respects.
In an emotional atmosphere, Mohamad Karim expressed acceptance of his daughter’s passing, describing the eldest of his four children as a martyr for dying in the pursuit of knowledge.
“Alhamdulillah, I’m grateful to the UUM management and the local community who helped ease the funeral arrangements. I accept this as God’s will.
“She passed away while seeking knowledge. That is an honour granted by God,” he said.
Mohamad Karim added that her loss was a significant blow to the family, as Manarina had been their hope to graduate and achieve academic success. - April 21, 2025
