MCMC questions individual over alleged AI -generated false content about Pahang

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from an individual believed to have uploaded false content about the state of Pahang on their personal Facebook account on 19 April.

The content, suspected to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI), sparked widespread speculation and negative public perception concerning alleged illegal farming activities in Raub, Pahang.

The statement was taken during an investigation session at the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters on 21 April. A mobile phone and SIM card were confiscated for forensic analysis.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which pertains to the improper use of network facilities or services. If found guilty, the individual could face a fine of up to RM500,000, a maximum jail term of two years, or both.

In a statement today, MCMC reiterated its firm stance on the misuse of social media platforms, stressing: “MCMC will not compromise and will take strict action against any individual found to be abusing social media to spread false content or commentary.” - April 22, 2025
