In the incident around 3.30pm yesterday at Bukit Mertajam, the two elderly men were at a hut with five others at Cherok Tekun when an argument ensued.

AN altercation between two male senior citizens turned deadly when in the fit of anger, one of them hit the other with a piece of wood before stabbing the victim to death.

In the incident around 3.30pm yesterday at Bukit Mertajam, the two elderly men were at a hut with five others at Cherok Tekun when an argument ensued.

Suddenly, the suspect who is 70-years old approached the 63-year-old victim form behind and assaulted him with a piece of wood before drawing a knife to stab the victim.

The suspect then fled the scene while the terrified eyewitnesses called for help.

An emergency response team arrived shortly and declared the victim dead at the scene.

Initial investigations revealed that there was a dispute between the two elderly men.

Bukit Mertajam district police chief Helmi Aris confirmed the incident, saying the police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Police also detained the five other men to assist in the investigation.

Helmi urged anyone with information to the case to contact the police. - April 29, 2025.
