A TOTAL of 40,000 round-trip ferry tickets have been sold for travel between Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, and Langkawi during the five-day LIMA '25 event, prompting operators to increase services.
Leftenan Komander (Rtd) Norhafiz Abdul Wahid, Operations Manager of Konsortium Ferry Line Ventures Sdn Bhd, said 100 extra ferry trips had been scheduled between 20 and 25 May to handle the surge in passengers.
“Although LIMA ’25 ends on 24 May, Ferry Line Ventures will continue operations until 25 May to ensure all passengers can leave Langkawi for Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis without congestion,” he said during a press conference at the Kuala Kedah Passenger Ferry Terminal on Thursday.
He noted that around 10,000 tickets were still available, and additional trips would be arranged based on demand.
“If demand continues to rise, ferry services from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi may be extended until midnight,” he added.
Norhafiz stressed that all safety requirements mandated by the Malaysian Marine Department were being met, including the provision of life jackets and navigation lights to ensure safe travel for all passengers.
“Ferries underwent maintenance in advance of this period. In the event of any technical issues, backup vessels are ready to step in to avoid service disruption,” he said.
To ensure smooth operations, a dedicated control centre will manage passenger flow in and out of Langkawi systematically.
“We have one ferry trip every hour, and if demand increases, we will open more time slots in the system and update travel information on the website,” he said.
He also encouraged passengers to book their tickets online through the Cuti-Cuti Langkawi app to avoid crowding and ensure a smooth booking experience. - May 8, 2025
