A 13-MONTH-old baby boy is believed to have been abused by his babysitter in Seri Iskandar, Perak, after being found in a weakened condition and rushed to Hospital Seri Iskandar on Monday.

Perak Tengah District Police Chief, Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, said a report was lodged by a doctor at the hospital’s emergency department at 5.21pm upon noticing suspicious injuries.

“Medical examination revealed multiple bruises on the baby’s cheek, ear, forehead, abdomen and legs,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.

“The treating doctor also observed abnormalities in the infant’s pupils and suspected the child had been subjected to abuse.”

Following the report, police arrested a female babysitter in her 30s at 9.20pm the same evening to assist with investigations.

“Initial findings show that the suspect had only been caring for the baby for two weeks,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. - May 20, 2025
