A PROSTITUTION operation allegedly taking place on the pavements and in dimly lit alleys near budget hotels in central Kuala Lumpur has been exposed following a police raid that led to the arrest of seven Ugandan women.
The women, believed to be guest relations officers (GROs), were detained during the Op Noda KL Strike Force operation conducted on Sunday by the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters’ Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7), in collaboration with the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, said the women, aged between 25 and 42, were suspected of offering sexual services to foreign men for fees ranging from RM150 to RM200 per encounter.
“A total of 33 individuals were screened during the operation, which ran from 11pm to 4am, including nationals from Uganda, Bangladesh, Indonesia, China, as well as one local woman.
“Seven Ugandan women were found actively soliciting customers along the pavements and alleyways near the hotels,” Sinar Harian reported him sating on Sunday.
He confirmed that all seven had allegedly been involved in illegal sex work.
“Further checks uncovered 12 condoms, two rolls of tissue paper, and RM450 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the activity,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 372B of the Penal Code, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, and Section 20(1)(b) of the Local Government By-Laws.
All detainees and seized items have been handed over to the respective district's Criminal Investigation Division for further action.
“In the same operation, the Immigration Department focused on identifying undocumented migrants, while DBKL took enforcement action against unlicensed foreign street vendors and unauthorised premises.
“DBKL issued one compound and seized five items over various offences detected during the raid,” he said. - May 25, 2025
