PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for an immediate end to the culture of hoarding national wealth by political and corporate elites, asserting that such practices threaten the country’s stability and betray the people’s trust.
"How can a nation allow tens of billions to be hoarded by a few political and corporate figures and then simply forget about it? Where is the lesson in that? What does power mean, then?" he said.
Speaking at the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2025 main event at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Anwar emphasised that his focus is not on imprisonment but on recovering public funds.
"I'm not interested in jailing people; I want to seize back that money so it can be returned to the people," he declared.
Anwar stressed that the core issue requiring urgent attention is the country’s financial governance. Only by resolving this, he said, can the government begin discussing increased allocations and improvements in key public services.
"The root issue is that this country will only be safe if we resolve the fundamental matter of national financial management. Only then can we talk about additional allocations, improving school standards," he said. - June 14, 2025
