KOTA KINABALU – The state government is reviving the Sabah Padi Board (LPS), a plan mooted by the previous Warisan administration before it lost power in September.
Sabah Assistant Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Datuk James Ratib said in the state assembly that the Warisan government had approved the board’s revival and the enactment for it is being looked at by the Sabah Attorney-General’s Department.
He said this in response to a question from Datuk Juil Nuatim (Warisan-Limbahan) who asked the Deputy Chief Minister II, and Agriculture and Fisheries minister whether the government intends to reinstate LPS.
“My ministry will table back the matter to the state government to determine its next direction. Yes, we will reinstate LPS.
James said his ministry is looking into the mechanisms to develop paddy cultivation especially in strategic areas.
“When this LPS is set up, we will arrange the planning.”
Activist Datuk Patrick Sindu was reported as saying that padi management in the state has become disorganised since the board was disbanded.
In May, the Warisan-led government announced plans to revive the board to improve the state’s self-sufficiency level. – The Vibes, December 23, 2020
