KUALA LUMPUR – Julau MP Larry Sng is willing to take up an interim role to continue leading Sarawak PKR as long as the party and Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition agree to his proposal in finding a “suitable Dayak leader” as his successor.
This is what Sng told The Vibes today after news of his resignation made headlines on Monday. However, his resignation was rejected by the Sarawak PKR leadership council following an emergency meeting last night.
“I am willing to consider staying to lead for a little while longer, if this idea is acceptable to PKR’s federal leaders and our coalition partners.
“I am confident that if my proposal is accepted, PH will go into the state election with a Dayak chief minister candidate.
“Should we win the state election, he will be Sarawak’s third Dayak CM in our history,” said Sng in a statement.
Sng also reiterated the need for Sarawak PKR to be led by a Dayak leader – the largest ethnic group in the state – as doing so will resonate well with the aspiration of many who have been “marginalised in every field and industry”.
“Hundreds of thousands of hectares of their land have been taken by big tycoons in Sarawak, through the issuance of temporary occupational licences.
“The majority of Dayak civil servants have been by-passed in senior government appointments within the civil service.
“Dayaks are also the poorest compared to other races. This, to me, is extremely unfair,” he wrote. – The Vibes, December 23, 2020
