A POLICE officer was injured after he was attacked by two men believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the guard post of the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) in George Town on Sunday afternoon.
Northeast District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, said the incident occurred at around 4.30pm when the officer stopped the two local men for behaving suspiciously near the entrance gate of the IPK.
“The officer conducted a preliminary inspection and suspected both individuals were intoxicated,” he said in a statement on Monday.
“They were brought into the guard post for further checks, but became aggressive. One suspect punched the officer in the face, while the other bit him on the chest, causing swelling to his left eye and bruising on his chest,” he added.
Abdul Rozak revealed that the suspects, aged 19 and 20, also hurled profanities at the officer after the assault.
Both men have since been detained and are being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. They are also being probed under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using insulting and offensive language.
“The suspects have been remanded for three days until 25 June to assist with ongoing investigations,” he said. - June 23, 2025
