VICTIMS of the gas pipe explosion and fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya have been given the flexibility to appoint independent contractors to carry out reconstruction work on their homes affected by the incident.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the facility was given to homeowners with an estimated total not exceeding RM30,000.
He said the owners involved were then allowed to submit claims for the repair work to the state government through the local authority (PBT).
However, he said, the repair work on houses that suffered damage worth more than RM30,000 would be handled by contractors appointed by the state government - either Sime Darby Property or Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB).
“There is no difference (for the reconstruction work on houses affected by the incident). All use the same claim method.
“Reconstruction and repair of damage exceeding RM30,000 in Putra Heights is handled by Sime Darby as the area developer.
"For minor damage under RM30,000, homeowners are given the opportunity to appoint their own contractors and submit claims based on specifications provided by the Public Works Department (JKR).
"For (the affected houses in) Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, SPNB under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government will carry out this task (repairing damaged homes)," he said as reported by Berita Harian.
Previously, the media reported that approximately RM40 million had been allocated by the Federal Government for the repair work of houses affected by the incident, with the process starting at the end of April.
In the incident on April 1, 81 houses were completely destroyed with structural damage exceeding 40 percent, another 81 were partially destroyed, 57 homes were affected but not damaged, while 218 other homes were not affected, including in Kampung Tengah, Puchong.
Meanwhile, Amirudin, who is also the Sungai Tua State Assemblyman (ADUN) said that the repair work of houses affected by the incident is estimated to be completed according to different time frames.
“Some have already been completed for minor damage. For damage to the structure of the house, it is expected to take 12 to 18 months, depending on the scale of the damage,” he said. - June 26, 2025
