EFFORTS to lower the cost of living, implementation of the Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll system, and ongoing discussions over reciprocal tariffs with the United States were among the main issues raised in the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to the Order of Business published on Parliament’s official website, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (PN–Bukit Gantang) asked the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to explain the actions taken by the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) to ease the financial burden on Malaysians.

Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PN–Setiu) directed a question to the Minister of Works regarding the status of the MLFF toll collection system, which is scheduled for implementation by 2025. He also inquired about enhancements to the system, including the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, to ensure its efficiency.

Wee Jeck Seng (BN–Tanjung Piai) posed a question to the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry on the status and effectiveness of negotiations between the Malaysian and US governments concerning reciprocal tariffs. He also sought assurances that these negotiations would not adversely impact Malaysia’s trade, supply chains, or small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Yeo Bee Yin (PH–Puchong) asked the Minister of Youth and Sports to outline key reforms introduced to the National Youth Consultative Council (MPBN) and to report on major resolutions proposed by young people, as well as efforts by the ministry to elevate these proposals to the government level.

Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (PN–Merbok) questioned the Minister of Housing and Local Government on whether the ministry provides special allocations to state governments or related agencies for managing solid waste and clearing illegal dumpsites outside local authority (PBT) jurisdictions.

Following the question session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), which was tabled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday.

The current session of the Dewan Rakyat will continue for 24 days, concluding on 28 August. - August 6, 2025
