OPPOSITION Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has clarified that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has not yet made a formal decision to submit a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament on Wednesday, Hamzah stressed that any such move would depend entirely on the outcome of deliberations by the Parliamentary Committee of Privileges regarding an earlier motion referring Anwar to the committee.
"We already have a structured approach in place. First, the issue has been raised with the Committee of Rights and Privileges through a motion submitted by PN Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan," he said.
"We are now waiting for a response from the Speaker. Only after that will we consider our next steps. We cannot simply jump to a no-confidence vote – there are procedures that must be followed," he added.
Previously, Takiyuddin had submitted a motion to Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to refer Anwar to the committee, citing the Prime Minister’s remarks involving former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Pulau Batu Puteh sovereignty issue.
Hamzah further confirmed that a no-confidence motion remains under consideration and may be submitted to the Speaker in the near future.
Last week, Anwar openly challenged the opposition to bring the motion forward, saying he had been waiting three years for it to materialise. - August 7, 2025
