HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the police investigation into the attack on the son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will be conducted fairly and “without regard to the status or background” of anyone involved.
He urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to proceed in accordance with the law, stressing that public safety, particularly the protection of children, will remain the ministry’s top priority.
Saifuddin said he had personally contacted Rafizi to convey his concern and assure him that police would do everything possible to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“I assured him that the police will do everything possible to identify and apprehend those responsible, and he expressed appreciation for these efforts.
“I also wish his son a speedy recovery from the trauma, and good health for his wife,” he told reporters in Kota Kinabalu.
Saifuddin was in Sabah to attend several meetings, including the Management of Foreign Nationals in the state along with Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Rafizi said the incident happened at about 1.45pm on Aug 13 in the car park of a shopping mall in Putrajaya, when two unknown men allegedly grabbed his 12-year-old son and jabbed him with a syringe before fleeing on a motorcycle, later found to be using a fake registration plate.
His son was confirmed to be in stable condition after initial tests showed no traces of drugs or poison, but doctors remain concerned about possible viral transmission.
The boy will undergo regular blood tests over the next six months.
Rafizi also revealed that his wife received two threatening messages hours after the attack, one at 1.12am and another at 11.02am, with both carrying the same warning, “Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS,” the latter accompanied by syringe emojis.
He has linked the incident to a meeting he had with whistleblowers about an alleged scandal the day before.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the attack as “very alarming” and ordered a swift and transparent investigation, while security arrangements for Rafizi’s family are being reviewed. - August 15, 2025
