A MAN has been charged with murder in the Seremban Magistrates’ Court following the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man in what is believed to be a crime of passion linked to an alleged affair.
Zulazren Zakariah, 31, who works as a cook, was formally charged with causing the death of Muhammad Amirul Rashid Mohd Niza by stabbing him in the chest during an incident on 11 August.
The charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli, to which the accused merely nodded in acknowledgment. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, the fatal incident took place around 6.50pm at a house in Taman Seri Pagi, Senawang. The offence is punishable under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, along with a mandatory 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not imposed.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nor Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi requested time for the completion of chemical, DNA, and post-mortem reports. The court fixed 17 October for mention.
Earlier media reports revealed that the victim, a divorcee, was found stabbed outside his family home and pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7.28pm.
Initial police investigations suggested that the stabbing followed a dispute between the accused and the victim. Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof stated that the accused allegedly attacked the victim after discovering a suspected romantic involvement between the latter and his wife.
Outside the courtroom, the accused’s older brother, 46, appealed for the public to refrain from making negative or speculative comments on social media.
“Many don’t know the full story. I ask netizens to stop posting hurtful remarks. My brother has been charged under Section 302 and we should now wait for the legal process to take its course,” he said.
Describing Zulazren as the youngest of 15 siblings, he portrayed him as a responsible family man devoted to his wife and two young children.
“In the mornings, he worked as a cook, then did food delivery in the afternoons, and at night helped his wife prepare pastries to sell the next morning,” he said. “He prioritised his family and has always been a good brother.”
The family also confirmed they would be appointing legal counsel shortly to represent Zulazren in court. - August 19, 2025
