BUKIT Aman police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate operating since July with the seizure of over 204 kilograms of syabu worth RM6.5 million during a raid in Kampung Kasar, Pasir Mas, on 25 August.
The operation, carried out between 7pm and 10pm by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) and the Kelantan police contingent, also led to the arrest of a man in his 20s believed to be acting as a transporter for the syndicate. The suspect owns a local sundry shop.
JSJN Director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the bust was the result of nearly a month of intelligence gathering and public tip-offs about the syndicate's activities.
“Checks in nearby undergrowth revealed seven gunny sacks containing 196 plastic packages labelled ‘Jin Xian Tea’ and ‘Number One’, all filled with syabu weighing 204.34 kilograms and valued at RM6.5 million. This supply was intended for distribution in the Klang Valley and could have potentially harmed 1.02 million individuals,” he told a press conference today.
He added that the drugs had been smuggled in from Thailand via illegal routes in Rantau Panjang before being hidden in forested areas to evade detection, pending collection by other syndicate members.
The suspect, who has five prior criminal records, tested positive for methamphetamine use. Authorities are now in the process of seizing his retail premises to determine whether it was used to mask the drug operation.
“In addition to the drugs, police seized two vehicles and RM708 held in bank accounts. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. JSJN remains committed to eradicating drugs to safeguard both current and future generations,” Hussein said. - Sept 3, 2025
