BADRUL Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, has been arrested in connection with a viral TikTok video allegedly containing seditious remarks and baseless claims relating to the royal institution.
Chegubard, who currently serves as the Bersatu party chief in Port Dickson, was detained on Thursday night to assist in investigations, according to Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar.
“We detected a posting on the TikTok account Edume @4mrankiamat featuring a man identified as Chegubard delivering what appeared to be an incendiary speech,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Kumar confirmed that the police, through the Classified Crime Investigation Unit of Bukit Aman’s D5 Division, launched a probe into the video after receiving a report from the public.
“A 47-year-old male, believed to be the speaker in the video, was arrested at 10.25pm yesterday to aid the investigation. A remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be made today,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Kumar stressed that firm action would be taken without compromise against any individual found intentionally making or disseminating inflammatory statements that could incite public unrest or threaten social harmony.
