MINOR damages to 15 government buildings in Segamat, caused by tremors from a weak earthquake between 24 and 30 August, are estimated to require RM550,500 in repairs, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan said.
He stated that the figure was based on an assessment conducted by the Segamat Public Works Department (JKR), which completed its inspection on 3 September.
Among the affected buildings were Segamat Hospital, Bandar Putra Health Clinic, Segamat Community College, the District Kadi Office, several schools, and government quarters.
“Most of the damage involved existing cracks which worsened slightly due to the earthquake tremors. However, the overall impact is minor and does not compromise the structural integrity of the buildings,” Bernama quoted him saying.
“These premises remain safe for occupancy and use. Nevertheless, occupants have been advised to remain vigilant and to report any new developments or structural changes to the Public Works Department,” he added.
Ahmad Maslan made the remarks during a press conference following a site visit and briefing on the extent of the damage caused by the recent seismic activity in the district.
