A SENIOR citizen from Kuantan was charged in the Sessions Court on Wednesday with raping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in April.

The accused, Roslan Sujak, 64, pleaded not guilty and requested a trial for both charges.

Based on the charge sheet presented by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Wan Nurul Izzati Wan Mohd Zahari, the accused allegedly raped the child at his home in Taman Pandan Perdana, in Kuantan.

For the offence, the accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of imprisonment not exceeding 20 years with caning.

In the same court, the accused was also charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physically assaulting the child on the roadside at Lorong Kampung Padang 2, here. If convicted, the accused also faces a prison sentence not exceeding 20 years and caning.

The prosecution did not offer bail for the accused, considering the seriousness of the crime.

This also took into account that the victim and the accused live in close proximity.

Judge Azman Mustapha allowed the prosecution’s application as no bail was offered for the accused. However, the accused can apply for bail after appointing a lawyer. The court set the case for mention on October 15 for the appointment of a lawyer. - September 10, 2025
