SABAH Umno has postponed its Gelombang Biru gathering scheduled for 21 September, saying the priority now must be on saving lives and helping those affected by floods and landslides.
State information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said the decision was made “from the heart” following the landslide disaster that claimed lives and the widespread floods displacing thousands across the state.
“We cannot hold a political celebration when our own people are mourning their loved ones and sleeping in evacuation centres,” Suhaimi said in a statement.
He expressed condolences to all families who had lost relatives, stressing that at this time, Sabahans must be seen not as voters but as one community bound by shared grief and solidarity.
“Politics can wait. When children are shivering in relief centres, when mothers lose their homes, when families bury the ones they love, all our strength must be focused there,” he said.
Suhaimi added that Barisan Nasional’s state machinery had been mobilised fully to the ground to deliver aid, provide support, and ensure no one is left alone in facing the disaster.
He said Gelombang Biru would return at a later date, but for now, the party was calling for a “wave of humanity” that transcends politics, built on compassion and solidarity for the people of Sabah. - September 17, 2025
