AS ASEAN chair, Malaysia remains committed to continuing its proactive role in ensuring regional peace, following successful efforts to facilitate a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

In a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised Malaysia’s commitment to promoting peace in South-east Asia.

"Trump acknowledged Malaysia's success in facilitating the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand and described it as a major achievement that reflects Malaysia's credibility and Asean's resilience.

"I also conveyed my appreciation to him for the role played by the US in helping to achieve the ceasefire," Anwar said in a Facebook post today.

He stressed that Malaysia, as Asean Chair, will continue to play a proactive role in ensuring regional peace, particularly concerning the Cambodia–Thailand issue.

“Malaysia looks forward to President Trump’s presence at the Asean Summit next month, which will serve as an important platform to strengthen cooperation for regional peace, stability, and prosperity,” he said.

The phone call took place when Anwar was receiving a courtesy visit from US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and his delegation. - September 25, 2025
