RECONSTRUCTION and repair work for homes affected by the underground gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights earlier this year have reached 85 per cent completion, according to Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB).
Chief Executive Officer of SPNB, Mohd Jamil Idris, said a total of 18 homes in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru are currently being restored. Of these, 11 are undergoing full reconstruction while the remaining seven are being repaired.
"The approved allocation allows for a maximum of RM300,000 for fully rebuilt homes and up to RM150,000 for repair works," he said.
Speaking to reporters at a key handover ceremony for affected residents, held under SPNB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in Sawah Sempadan, Mohd Jamil noted that progress remains on track.
"Last week, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari conducted a site visit, during which we had completed three newly built houses and four repaired homes," he said.
"We are targeting the completion of all repair works by the end of this month, with new builds expected to be finished by the first week of October," he added.
The event was officiated by SPNB Chairman Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Azmi Mohd Lila and attended by Permatang state constituency coordinator Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri.
The explosion, which occurred on 1 April, saw flames shooting more than 30 metres into the air and temperatures reportedly exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius.
The incident caused widespread destruction, with 81 homes completely gutted and suffering structural damage of over 40 per cent. Another 81 were partially destroyed, 57 were affected but not burned, and 21 homes remained untouched.
The restoration project is part of a broader effort to support the affected community and return displaced residents to safe and secure housing as swiftly as possible. - September 26, 2025
