THE Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today continued hearing charges against a former pay-TV employee accused of unauthorised data modification involving hundreds of customer accounts.
Nora Idayu Jaafar, 48, pleaded not guilty to 135 counts of data tampering during the proceedings, which form part of a wider 743-count charge sheet first brought against her in June this year.
The charges were read before Judge Suhaila Haron by three court interpreters in a session that lasted around two hours.
According to the charge sheets, Nora Idayu—formerly with the Commercial Support Unit of Astro—allegedly altered data by converting regular customer accounts into corporate accounts, with knowledge that her actions would result in unauthorised changes to the company’s database.
The alleged offences were committed between 2013 and 2019 at Astro’s headquarters in Menara Icon, Jalan Tun Razak.
She is charged under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which carries a maximum penalty of RM100,000 or up to seven years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Rohaiza Abdul Rahman is leading the prosecution, while Daniel Annamali represents the accused.
The court granted Nora Idayu bail of RM10,000 with one surety. The hearing will continue over the next two days to address the remaining charges.
In earlier proceedings, the court took nearly two hours to read 132 charges on 26 June, after only managing 30 on 4 June when the accused fainted during the session.
A psychiatric evaluation conducted at the Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta later confirmed that the accused was mentally fit to stand trial, fully aware of her actions and their consequences. - September 29, 2025
