PARTICIPANTS of the Free Sumud Flotilla Solidarity Gathering in Kuala Lumpur were on Friday allowed to march closer to the United States Embassy, where a memorandum on the Palestinian cause was officially submitted.
The crowd, which included individuals from various age groups and political affiliations, began moving towards the vicinity of the embassy along Jalan Tun Razak at approximately 3.30pm.
Security throughout the gathering was maintained under the supervision of police officers who had been present since the early stages of the demonstration.
Earlier, it was reported that a representative from the US Embassy in Malaysia had agreed to receive the memorandum, which was jointly submitted by Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and several non-governmental organisations.
The PKR Youth chief (AMK) Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim confirmed that embassy officials had contacted his team to set the handover for 3pm.
“We were contacted by a representative from the embassy who agreed for the memorandum to be handed over at 3pm,” he said.
He added, the Embassy has given assurances that it is actively working to ensure the safety and well-being of the Malaysian volunteers detained during the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission, and is making efforts to facilitate their repatriation.
The PKR Youth chief, who also serves as political secretary to the prime minister, said embassy officials had conveyed their commitment to safeguarding the detained participants and securing their return.
"I have been assured by the US Embassy that they are working hard to ensure the safety and condition of our volunteers, and to bring them back as soon as possible," he said.
The Malaysians were part of the humanitarian flotilla seeking to draw attention to the plight of Palestinians and deliver aid by sea. - October 3, 2025
