THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have thwarted criminal activities involving seizures totalling more than RM4 billion between January and September this year, including a record-breaking interception of illegally imported electronic waste (e-waste).
According to Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim, Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department, the largest share of the seized goods — valued at over RM4 billion — came from enforcement action against unlawful e-waste smuggling operations.
“We are all aware that the Department of Environment has issued 156 licences to selected companies authorised to manage domestic e-waste. However, these companies are not permitted to import e-waste from abroad,” he said.
“Despite this, violations have occurred, and the police have taken the initiative to curb such imports.
“We will not cease our efforts to combat these crimes. We will continue to ensure that laws in this country are enforced, tightened, and adhered to by all parties involved in business activities,” Azmi stated during the 78th Anniversary celebration of the Marine Police Force at the Region 1 Marine Police Operations Base in Pulau Indah near Port Klang.
Highlighting the operational strength of the Marine Police (PPM), Azmi added that from 1 January to 30 September, the unit had successfully carried out 7,136 enforcement operations in Malaysian waters, resulting in seizures and summonses valued at RM496.1 million.
These operations covered a range of maritime offences and reflect the force’s continued commitment to safeguarding national waters from criminal exploitation. - October 3, 2025
